On Thursday, the Andrew Sibbald School community gathered together in our beautiful Learning Grounds to acknowledge the land with the Morning Cree Song and the Children's Treaty 7 Land Acknowledgement

This week students participated in a variety of tasks, discussions, and read-alouds to gain deeper understanding of Indigenous cultures, the importance of appreciating different perspectives, as well as some of the unfortunate consequences of Residential Schools.
After learning a little bit about Phyllis Webstad and reading her story - 'The Orange Shirt Day Story' we talked about what the words 'Every Child Matters' means -
- "I think it means that we are all important."
- "It means we all matter and should be taken care of."
- "It means to be kind and not have schools like that anymore."
- "I think it means that even though we're all different we all matter."
Next students created their own Orange Shirt Day t-shirt designs and shared about what makes them feel like they matter -
We learned about what a Treaty is and located Treaty 7 on our map Canada in our province of Alberta. Students learned that the 5 nations that are part of Treaty 7 are the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, Stoney-Nakoda and Tsuut'ina. We also looked closely at the Treaty 7 flag.
