Learning Intention: Phonics (ELAL)
- Students apply understanding of letter combinations and sounds in words
I Can:
- make connections between a full range of letter combinations and sounds
- recognize and use a wide range of consonant letters and letter combinations in the beginning, middle and ending of words
- recognize and use letter combinations that represent long vowel sounds
We continue to engage in daily literacy activities following the CBE's Grade Two English Language Arts and Literature curriculum as well as the UFLI Program. We follow a 3 day cycle for each lesson. Day 1 and 2 focus on reviewing previous concepts taught as well as focusing on new concepts. On Day 3 students participate in a 'Check In' activity.
- the /oi/ sound spelled using the vowel teams oi, and oy.
- the /ow/ sound spelled using the vowel teams ou and ow.
Ask your child to tell you about the different activities we do during our lessons. Can they give you some examples of words that have the /oi/ or /ow/ sound in them and are spelled with the correct vowel teams?
