This week we had the amazing opportunity to participate in some really exciting art experiences! Our glass art session with Miss. Anna was informational, fast-paced and full of smiling students proudly creating beautiful masterpieces!

Learning Intention: (Grade 2 Art - Glass Fusion)

Before we met with Miss Anna, we brainstormed different things we could design and create to represent Spring as we have been talking about the changing season and Spring Equinox. We talked about the importance of using simple shapes for our pictures as the glass tiles that we would be fusing our glass pieces to was not that big. Students came up with lots of great spring-thing ideas and got straight to work building their ideas using pattern blocks. Once they had explored with the blocks, they moved onto creating a paper version of their idea by cutting shapes out of paper and glueing them to their final design pages. This was a little more challenging, but also an important step in helping them realize that smaller pieces were much harder to work with and also prepared them for embracing any imperfections that happen with cut glass. Anna shared lots of interesting information about glass...how it is formed, shaped and coloured as well as all about the different tools she uses when working on her glass fusion art. Students did a FABULOUS job listening carefully, following directions and being safe while working with the glass, and their creations are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!
