Grade 2 Learning Intentions:
ELAL
- Writing: Ideas and information can be articulated accurately and imaginatively through the use of writing processes and an understanding of the author's craft.
I Can:
- Create messages that align with an intended audience or purpose
- Create written messages in a variety of forms to represent ideas or information
- Organize sentences in a logical sequence to create written messages
- Print with appropriate size, formation, and spacing to enhance clarity of a message
As a group we talked about some of the things that we weren't able to do yet - such as "skip on the monkey bars", "read a chapter book", "spell hard words", "ride a dirt bike." After our discussion students worked on completing their 4-Square planner to help them organize their thoughts. They were asked to write down jot notes about -
- different examples of things they couldn't do yet
- choose one example for creating a goal
- list strategies that could help them with their goal
- decide on how long it would take them to 'get' their 'yet'
Next students began working on using their planner to help them write about their 'Yet' using sentences. They were given sentence starters (ie -One thing I can't do yet is...) and then independently completed the sentences using their notes as a guide.
Task expectations were -
- use appropriate size printing and spaces between words
- use capitals at the beginning of sentences and periods at the end
- follow the sequence of the sentence starters
