Over the last few weeks we have been working hard on co-creating some criteria - or the 'What's Important' - for writing. We talked about some different forms of writing (fictional stories, instructional, non-fiction/informational, personal experiences) and together we came up with the criteria. Here are a few examples...
During our morning 'ME Time' you will find many students busy being authors and illustrators while creating their very own stories and mini books! We also have many other creative stories happening throughout the room as students use materials such as loose parts or Lego to represent their ideas and share their stories orally.
I CAN:
- think of ideas or topics to write about
- add pictures that have important details, colour and a background
- write complete sentences and use capitals and periods
- use finger spaces and make sure my 'sky, grass, and dirt' letters are the right size
- add 'juicy' words to help make my writing interesting (adjectives, adverbs)
This criteria shaped the Student Self-Assessment -
Students worked hard on their recent winter stories and are very excited to get them published and share them with others!
